In school the week before students conducted investigations into circuits to gain a more hands on understanding of energy. After experimenting with different circuit configurations and recording their results students created an information text poster showing their understanding. Here is some of the various criteria that students included in their posters:
- Diagram of a simple series electrical circuit (using recognised symbols), identifying and naming its basic parts, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers.
- Explanation of whether or not a lamp will light in a simple series circuit, based on whether or not the lamp is part of a complete loop with a battery.
- Recognition that a switch opens and closes a circuit.
- Identification of some common conductors, associating metals as being good conductors.
- Identification of some common appliances that run on electricity.
