Observational Drawing

Hello PYP Community!

In Art this unit we are exploring architecture and drawing skills. Students began the unit looking at 2D shapes and how they become 3D. Then students practiced 3D observational drawing with geometric-shaped blocks. Mr. Concagh will then lead some support lessons teaching the students techniques related to shading and 2-point perspective. Finally students will create their final piece; an observational architecture drawing based on a photo of a building taken during our field trip to Paranapiacaba.

Check out some photos of the process below. These were taken during the 3D observational drawing with geometric-shaped blocks the week before break:

Earth Day

The student council organized a celebration of  Earth Day last week. Pupils were encouraged to come to school dressed in blue and green and think about their impact on the environment.

All classes were asked to not use electricity for period 6. It was a time to reflect on how much we use electricity, as well as how easy it is to go without it for a period of time. Below are pictures of PYP 6 Sigma working without electricity.

PYP 6 Omega had an in-depth conversation related to our unit about how settlements impact the environment and the Earth. They talked about how settlements need to destroy the environment to grow, but many cities around the world are trying to be more environmentally friendly. Students talked about how the development São Paulo has impacted the environment, as well as how São Paulo is trying to lessen its impact by better public transportation, encouraging bicycle riding and adding plants and trees to different areas around the city.

PYP 4 - 7 in Jd. Europa got together to form the shape of the Earth!

PYP 6 Beta went on a nature scavenger hunt around the Pinheiros campus and realized that even though they are in one of the biggest cities in the world, there is nature everywhere!
